Buying Used Pro Audio: Evidence & Inspection Checklist
What equipment photos can establish, what they cannot, and which unit-linked records to request before comparing a second-hand purchase.
Match each quoted unit to dated identity photos, a clear included-items list, disclosed defects and relevant test evidence. Keep every missing fact unconfirmed; a lit screen or a brand label is not a test pass.
1. Link the evidence to the actual unit
Ask for consistent front, rear, model-label and serial images. Use a unit or batch reference so the photo set, report and quotation can be matched. Confirm ownership and the right to sell separately; a badge is not authentication.
- Request a date and record ID with the evidence.
- For a multi-unit batch, distinguish each unit or agree a documented sampling scope.
- Check whether different photo folders repeat the same equipment.
2. Separate appearance from functional checks
Describe cosmetic wear separately from operation. Agree the inspection scope before requesting a demonstration, including test conditions, equipment used, observed defects and what was not tested.
| Equipment | Evidence to request | Not established by a photo |
|---|---|---|
| Digital console | Required local / remote audio paths, controls, screens and recall workflow | A complete operational pass or installed paid options |
| Loudspeaker / line array | Unit-linked driver, connection and relevant performance inspection records | Original drivers, safe rigging or a matched system |
| Amplifier / processing | Qualified inspection under an agreed operating condition, settings and defect report | Rated output, safe power components or long-term reliability |
3. Record repairs, omissions and acceptance
Ask what has been repaired, replaced, modified or left untested. A missing report is neither a pass nor a failure. Agree how a mismatch or undisclosed defect will be addressed in writing.
- List serial-linked defects and missing controls / connectors.
- Identify exactly which accessories and cases are included.
- State the acceptance scope and who performs any specialist inspection.
4. Treat rigging and electrical safety as separate assessments
Do not use website photos or this checklist as an installation, load-rating or electrical-safety certificate. Have suitably qualified people assess the actual equipment and intended use. No inspection or certification service is represented as already completed.
5. Send a useful evidence request
Name the exact model, record ID, quantity, destination and intended configuration. Ask for missing facts individually rather than asking whether everything is “good”.
- Identity and current quantity: to confirm.
- Configuration, accessories and known defects: to confirm.
- Dated inspection scope and results: to confirm.
- Packing, dispatch and written responsibilities: to confirm.

Editorial purchasing checklist reviewed 2026-10-16. These are questions to ask, not reports of inspections performed by AudioRegear. Manufacturer information describes model design, not the condition, authenticity, options or included items of supplied equipment.
No manufacturer performance numbers or market prices are asserted in this checklist.
Current stock, testing, accessories, price and commercial terms remain to confirm. Qualified inspection, installation and destination-specific advice must be arranged as appropriate; this page is not a certificate or legal / customs determination.
